113 & 127 Lyman Street

HISTORY

The highly ornate Cutler & Porter Block was built in 1894 and designed by architect Frederick Newman, who designed the recently renovated Court Square Building. The adjacent Produce Exchange Building was built in 1899. For many years, both were the home of Absorbine Junior. The buildings were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

DEMOLISHED

These buildings were demolished by a developer who wanted to clear the site for their Hall of Justice proposal for the new Springfield courthouse. The developer did not receive the project, and these former National Register buildings are lost.

LOST

These buildings were true treasures and have been lost. This photo shows the site is now leveled and vacant.
