Through the annual Preservation Awards, Tours of Historic Homes, Most Endangered List, and taking action when historic properties are threatened by the wrecking ball, SPT has been a consistent voice advocating for historic preservation for over four decades. Our mission is to help residents, business owners, and visitors of Springfield understand the importance of historic preservation and how it supports civic pride by creating a unique character and a sense of place. Losing historic places means losing the distinctive features that make Springfield special.
Preservation Awards Ceremony
The Springfield Preservation Trust honors the people and organizations that help restore and preserve historic structures in Springfield. Every year the Trust showcases exemplary properties that represent the best of preservation in Springfield, as well as honor those who are stewards of historic properties. Please join us to help congratulate the awardees.
Tours of Historic Homes
An event that is both a successful fundraiser and a successful advocacy tool, SPT house tours are one of the most visible events of the SPT year. Historic assets of the city are showcased when generous homeowners open their homes and help to bring a better appreciation and education to the public. The Trust holds a tour in the Spring and Autumn and occasionally will also hold a holiday tour. Tours have been held in Forest Park, McKnight, Atwater Park, Ridgewood Historic District, Mattoon Street, & Maple Street. The hope is to bring this back in 2023, but SPT will need your help. Please contact info@springfieldpreservation.org if you will open your home up for visitors to tour.
